Free e-mail accounts @ yellowdogs.com
WARNING: The free yellowdogs.com e-mail service is provided by a third party system provided by everyone.net. The history behind the everyone.net powered yellowdogs.com e-mail service
is outlined below and I repeat that I have no control over this situation.
All other features on this site (e-cards, etc.) are operated directly
on my site and my paid web host. The everyone.net site has had problems in the past with adware installation but I don't have any recent reports of problems.
When you access your free e-mail account be sure to set your browser
settings so that it cannot install any software from a web site without
your permission. In addition, make sure you regularly scan your system
with an adware/spyware detection program.
If you need help or more information about this situation contact
me.
-----------
Yellowdogs.com still offers web-based free-email accounts in partnership
with everyone.net, but due to
the number of complaints in over the past few years this is the information
you need to know before signing up. We have offered the Yellowdogs.com
service for several years, and the number of registrations continues
to increase. As the yellowdogs.com domain owner I contracted with everyone.net
in the late 90's to provide the e-mail service for the domain which
allowed users to sign up for their own mail account. At that time the
service and support were very good.
Unfortunately with the hard times in the dot com sector they (everyone.net)
have made major changes to their service. They now aggresively push
for users to sign up for their plus service at $20 per year, and to
encourage this switch they place ads all over the websites and have
drastically downgraded the user friendliness of the free mail system.
They also severely restrict customer support to free accounts. They
did recently (spring 2008) add a contact for the domain owner (me) to
contact them, but I have not used it yet so I don't know how responsive
they are to inquiries. If I were to cancel the everyone.net service
hundreds of existing accounts would be deleted, and I will not do this
to my fellow yellowdogs.
Knowing this situation you are still welcome to sign up for a free account
if you wish, and a few yellowdogs.com users have purchased the ad-free
enhanced service (instructions are listed as you sign up for an address).
I use some of the free accounts for my own use and thus know firsthand
of the problems.
